FAQs

DO YOU OFFER "REGULAR" THERAPY (NOT MUSIC THERAPY)?

Yes! Cara is a board-certified music therapist AND a pre-licensed professional counselor, which means you can seek services that are music-based, talk-based, or a combination of both. If you are not interested in music therapy and would like to work with Cara for counseling services, we welcome you!

WHAT IS A TYPICAL SESSION LIKE?

Part of what makes therapy so powerful is that no two sessions are the same! Whether you are coming in for talk therapy or music therapy, each session is tailored to each client’s goals and objectives, which can change from minute-to-minute. Our processes involve both the therapist and client, and we will shift our session focus and goals in real time to reflect the needs of the individual. Cara's style is laid-back, authentic, and warm. Therapy should feel like a safe and inviting place where you can gain new perspectives, vent frustrations, and process your experiences.

DO I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO SING OR PLAY AN INSTRUMENT?

You do not need ANY prior music experience to engage in music therapy sessions. Music interventions include music listening, songwriting, guided meditations, mindfulness and music interventions, body relaxations, and more!

Music therapy techniques allow people with no prior music experience

to engage in active music-making.

DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

Currently, Sunrise Music Therapy, LLC exclusively accepts private pay.

If payment is an issue, please contact cara@sunrisemusictherapy.com.

WHO GOES TO MUSIC THERAPY?

ISN'T IT JUST FOR KIDS OR THE ELDERLY?

Many people can benefit from music therapy! We work with people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Cara specializes in working with expectant parents through their birthing experience and with children and adults with medical diagnoses and mental health needs.

If you have a need, music therapy may be helpful.

Schedule a free 20 minute consult to discuss your goals and needs

to see if music therapy would be a good fit.

HOW LONG IS A SESSION?

Therapy sessions are scheduled for 30 or 50 minutes.

If you have a concern about this timeframe,

please have a discussion with Cara.

Flexibility is possible if it would help to meet your needs.
